The CRM Handbook: A Business Guide to Customer Relationship Management

Amazon.com Review

As the thinkers have said, you should strive in all situations to know yourself and know your enemy. Most of history's great thinkers, however, were not in business. In business, you have to know your customer and understand how your company interacts with him or her. The current term for this is customer relationship management (CRM), and The CRM Handbook is the best textbook for managers on the mechanics of CRM. It's a standout in a field that's filled with squishy books that go on at length about how important CRM is, but which lack details. Jill Dyché provides lots of factual information, real case studies, carefully considered commentary, and reasoned criteria with which to evaluate CRM products and strategies. Though you'll certainly want to supplement Dyché's work with vendors' product literature and implementation proposals, you'll get a lot from her carefully researched book. Dyché devotes some of her (fairly slender) volume to CRM background information but quickly gets to the issues that managers confronted with CRM decisions need to consider. She makes great use of bulleted lists, scorable quizzes, and checklists (sections about what questions to ask vendors, and why, are particularly good) that you can use right now to gauge any organization's suitability to CRM and determine how they need to change in order to get the most out of their systems. --David Wall Topics covered: Customer relationship management (CRM)--as a business practice and as a set of technologies--explained for managers and corporate planners. CRM fundamentals, CRM product selection, and internal promotion of CRM are all covered well.

From the Back Cover

Praise for The CRM Handbook “Want to avoid being one of the estimated 70 percent of companies who have tried implementing standalone CRM systems and failed? Confused by what your IT suppliers are telling you about ‘CRM’? Then you need to read this book! Jill provides acomprehensive, practical, and easy to understand view of CRM and shows you how to successfully implement an enterprise customer-focused solution.”         —Kevin Bubeck              Director, North America Information Strategy, Coca-Cola “CRM could be viewed as the ERP of the 2000s. As such, there will be multiple winners and losers as the marketplace places some large and strategic bets on this technology. In any case, Jill Dyché has captured the importance of the concepts and value derived through CRM solutions. Those needs will evolve, of course, but companies will always need the basics that have been discussed.”         —Brian Berliner              Co-founder & EVP, Product Development, Acies Networks “The CRM Handbook provides information for the business person who is trying to understand CRM and how it can effect his/her business. It goes beyond the hype of the acronym and dives into the real issues that a company needs to consider before implementing a CRM solution.”         —Joy Blake Scott              Director, Marketing and Communications, Fastwater, LLP “I haven’t read anything that has such a practical approach. I view the book as having multiple benefits. It gives a good definition of CRM functionality but also gives detailed guidance of how to approach CRM in your organization.”         —Francine Frazer              Principal Consultant, Net Perceptions “Even better than defining CRM, Jill took on all of the hyperlanguage around CRM and clearly differentiated the various incarnations of CRM. It’s also usefulto know what can go wrong and the potential affects of such missteps. Too few authors level with readers about pitfalls!”         —Linda McHugh              Director, Professional Services, Cygent Inc. “The guides based on the business tools that Jill uses with her own clients are fabulous.”         —Robin Neidorf              President, Electric Muse/Clio’s, Pen Research & Interpretation, Inc. “The language is easy to read and easy to understand. Terms were well explained so that someone with no prior CRM experience could easily understand the text.”         —Marcia Robinson              President, e-Business Strategies “An excellent study into what defines today’s best practices in the CRM industry.”         —Gareth Herschel              Senior Research Analyst, Gartner Research “Jill writes very well. Her writing communicates subjects and topics in a very easy to understand way. At times, I felt like I was listening to her speak or discussing a subject. She is a good communicator! Jill did a very good job of covering all subject areas on the different topics of CRM. I am most impressed with Jill on pointing out all the possible mistakes and creating ‘lessons learned’ advice which most authors frequently omit.”         —Mary Chan              Information Management Consultant, Kagiso Inc. “Jill Dyché's The CRM Handbook is a good read for CRM novices and seasoned practitioners alike. Dyché's well-written, pragmatic approach to understanding CRM's evolution and purpose is a map to a successful CRM program. Dyché uncovers the truth behind the CRM software vendor hype, highlights some common roadblocks to CRM project development, and describes how to delineate and prioritize CRM initiatives.”          —Don Peppers              Partner, Peppers and Rogers Group To compete in today's competitive marketplace, customer focus is no longer simply nice to have—it's a fundamental mandate. This book is a manager's best friend, providing both a primer and a how-to guide to defining and implementing Customer Relationship Management. It shows you: The various roles CRM plays in business, and why it's more important than ever The range of CRM applications and uses, from sales force automation to campaign management to e-CRM and beyond The context of some of the popular CRM buzzwords The differences between CRM and business intelligence, and why they're symbiotic Why the customer-relationship failure rate is so high, and how to avoid becoming another CRM statistic Case studies of visionary companies who've done CRM the right way “We read this book at a time when we were relooking at our customer information strategy. One of the first things I had to do was ban the term ‘CRM’ from the project because of the vendor and industry hype and the confusion it created within the team. Jill’s book provides a strategic look at the topic from both a business and IT perspective. The insights she provides allowed me to focus on the strategic issues planning an enterprise-wide, customer-focused solution. And yes we are once again using the term ‘CRM’.”         —Kevin Bubeck              Director, North America Information Strategy, Coca-Cola “Jill is one of the few people who has been at the forefront of every stage of CRM development, from the early days of data warehousing, through business re-engineering, to sales force automation and e-CRM. This makes her uniquely qualified to write about how it should all come together. The reader will be rewarded with advice drawn from real-world experience—both successes and failures. I shudder to think at the dollars that have been wasted over the years on CRM projects and how much will be wasted in the future by executives who won't read The CRM Handbook.”        —Brian Hoover              President, TouchScape™ Corporation “The CRM Handbook provides an outstanding roadmap for putting human contact—relevant, accurate, informed human contact—back at the heart of the business-customer relationship. That's the challenge and the sole goal of Customer Relationship Management.”         —Charles D. Morgan                          CEO and Company Leader             Axiom Corporation “Jill Dyché has produced a wide-screen, comprehensive picture of CRM that also focuses on key issues that matter to CRM users. This book is written for those who are time-constrained and quick on the uptake—everyone from the CEO to the marketers and technologists who will evaluate, implement, and benefit from CRM initiatives.”         —Peter Heffring              President, CRM Division, NCR Teradata “Jill has masterfully compiled scenarios, resources, references, definitions, and insightful recommendations about how to remain customer-focused across the enterprise functions. The book can be used as an educational tool, reference guide, and resource for short-listing technologies to evaluate.”         —John Earle              President, Chant Inc.

If you wanna know step by step, get this one. It's clear, have good examples, figures and everything so you can understand how to do CRM at the beginning and a preview for what could come on.If you know about CRM, this book could be kinda boring..but if you don't care about reading from the beginning again..get it! It's good for coaching.

I was hoping for a lot more around the Management part of CRM, not just about system solutions. Clearly the author has implemented systems, but only touches the surface of the rest of the process

We are currently in the process of evaluating a number of CRM products, and while the examples provided in this book are a bit dated, this book's philosophy is very much current. This book has helped to supplement my understanding of CRM and to has been instrumental in helping to shape our organizational approach to this expensive and time consuming investment. Well worth the read.

Excellent CRM book; the only problem is that it has become a little dated. With the advent of "Big Data", many of the concepts are not as relevant as they once were.

Ms Dyché dedicates the book to her mother, June Dyche, "who set the book-writing precedent early, and well". I would add, extremely well, and, with the book in my hands, have to also thank her for the excellent upbringing job.She introduces not only the how's of CRM but also, when appropriate, the why's, that is, not only the engineering but also the wisdom behind the subject. If a prerequisite to take part in a CRM project is to know what CRM is about and all critical issues in a successful CRM project, this book fulfills it.

well....sometimes when you are CRM professionnal you use and abuse of the abreviationthen someone comes along and ask how all it started, what are the basics, what is that all aboutTHIS is the book that will help you to keep your feet touching the ground, a checking list before you travel to the (CRM) stars

This was a great resource for my learning project. I looking forward to review other items on your list in the near future.

Good Product. As expected. No compains. If you compare prices and is the best, there is no hold back to it.

Review

Source: windingroad.comBook Review: 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know By Tom Martin January 24, 2017 This is a very engaging book about the people and cars of Porsche written by New Zealander Wilfried Muller. There are hundreds of Porsche books, but this one is distinguished by an easy-to-read, easy-to-look-at format. Each spread of two pages presents a short history of about 400 wordsalong with an historic photograph of a car (usually accompanied by somehistorically important people). The stories are organized thematically("Key Figures", "Milestones", "Extremists", etc.) so you get a sense ofPorsche history if you want to read page to page, but you can also justcrack the book open anywhere and get a hit of Porsche for the day. Thephotographs are lovely and the writing is breezy while chock full offacts.Like a lot of Porsche books, this one may mostly appeal to those who havealready drunk the Kool-Aid. However, if you're not a die-hard Porschebook person, we actually think this is an ideal starting point. Because 111 Porsche Stories You Should Know doesn't adhere to a rigid chronological or obsessively detailedapproach, we actually think it is better for many who would like tounderstand the "thing" that is Porsche. And, we should say, we reallythink that in the world of racing and sports cars, that Porsche has a"thing" worth knowing about if any brand does (Ferrari should beincluded in this category too). So, if you're not a die-hard Porscheperson, you would come away from this book with a better appreciationthat your Porsche friends aren't crazy (or they aren't crazy because oftheir Porsche obsession). Even better, you'll get to know a marque with perhaps the most interestinghistory in all of motoring. Just one example illustrates the amazingness that accompanies Porsche: Ferdinand Porsche (the original) in 1900developed his second car. The drivetrain? A hybrid gas-electric withsteerable hub motors on each front wheel and a range of 125 miles. Nottoo far from the Le Mans-winning 919 that came 115 years later. Which, appropriately, is the stuff of legends.  You can buy 111 Porsche Stories You Should Know from Amazon.Source: maxim.comRidesIf You're a Porsche Freak, You Need this New Book NowIt's packed with 111 stories about the iconic brand.Dec 2, 2016 Sure, you can pick up a couple nuggets of Porsche history by watching Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld talk cars as guests on each other's shows, but if you want all the Porsche news and trivia, 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know is your one-stop source.Did you know that the very first Porsche356 of 1948 was not rear-engined? That one-off car had its enginemounted in the middle, like the later 550 Spyder. And you've gotto see the time Porsche lifted a priceless 904 Carrera GTS with a craneand dropped it on its nose to simulate a 30 mph crash test in the daysbefore they had an actual crash test lab. Or how they used an ex-Sovietair base in the former East Germany for high-speed runs during the media launch of the Carrera GT.The $32.95, 300-page hardcover bookincludes 150 color photos of all the classic Porsches, drivers, engineers and executives that made the company the icon it is today. This Book Will Prove You Wrong!3/23/2017 2:37 By: Pepper GirlCommentAs the forward says, this isn't a history book and it's not a work of reference. Instead, 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know is just that, a compilation of tales, anecdotes and magical treasures about our favorite marque.Avid readers of FLATSIXES.com are sure to be familiar with a number of the stories covered in 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know, but there are countless others that were either new to us or hadspecifics we didn't know of (like the story of Gerhard Mitter winningthe European Championship in 1966 while wearing a plastic coated plaster cast on his left foot). Organized by theme vs. chronology, 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know covers the following areas:Early YearsKey FiguresMilestonesRacing DriversExtremistsAround the PitwallFamily JewelsMagic WordsPorsche ArtBirds of ParadiseMomentsSuper Sports CarsPrototypesThe Most Amazing TracksCliff HangersSet up for easy readingEach story unfolds across two pages with the text on the left and aperfectly sourced picture on the right. Because it's not inchronological order, as the reader, you can open up 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know to any page and simply read. Flip forward or back and you'll have another story to delight. One of our favorite pieces of Porsche trivia is the story of Jean-Claude Rude and his attempt at using a modified Porsche 935 to help him set the world record for "motor pacing". Not only does the material in the book back-up what we wrote. It provides final details we had trouble pinning down. 111 Porsche Stories That You Should Know isn't going to transform a new Porsche enthusiast into Karl Ludvigsen. It will, however, provide an entertaining and interesting look atPorsche's rich history and provenance and why so many of us love thebrand so dearly. Very nice quality. Bought it as a gift and my dad loved it. Would buy again.

Purchased this book as a gift for a sports-car aficionado friend - he was thrilled with the back-stories, photos and anecdotes. Thanks Wilfried for your labor of love!

Great book but the "European English" is a bit cumbersome at times.

A lot of good stories.

I am a college adjunct faculty English teacher and I wanted a simple edition with notes for my class to read in the fall. I was going to order 20 of these for the class, but I am so glad I first bought one for myself. The paper edition doesn't have any spaces between the speakers, either, so it is difficult to read, even if it were written in language my students, mostly college freshmen, could easily understand. They would give up on this edition. Also, there are absolutely NO NOTES for students that define and explain some of the more obscure vocabulary and written expressions. The text underneath this edition on Amazon did NOT say that there were no notes. It is not helpful AT ALL for a new reader of Shakespeare or a reader who only read it in high school unwillingly. I am going to order something else for my class.

As noted by other reviewers, this edition provides but a fraction of what it promises. There are no annotations, no photographs — a historical impossibility of monumental absurdity — of the author, nor any of the other promised features. Beyond that, it does not even include a dramatis personnae, a hallowed standard for any dramatic work. Even the ratings provided by Kindle were for other Shakespeare plays. ... Is there no quality control for works published by Kindle? This was such a sham that it makes me very leery about future purchases from Kindle, especially for editions with which I am not familiar.

This is probably the worst book I've ever received. Characters are not marked. There is no formatting. It is just a wall of text. Don't buy this. Get a different copy of this play.

When I saw Romeo & Juliet in the theatre -- on its opening weekend -- after the film in the lobby I saw dozens of teenaged girls sobbing in each other's arms. I've never seen anything like that before or since. That alone marks the film as a masterpiece, and nothing any critic can say is relevant next to that emotional reaction. Those sobbing teenagers are absolute proof that any critic who panned this film is a fool.Di'Caprio wasn't very famous at that point (though I believe he'd already been nominated for an oscar for an indy film). Later that night, I had dinner with friends and predicted that this boy would become the biggest star in Hollywood -- by tomorrow! I was off by a couple of years. Rare in film history has there been such a perfect casting -- Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo. The mythical balcony scene is freshly designed and executed wonderfully, bringing the myth to life before our eyes. But the crowning glory and superpower of this film is the 'love at first sight' scene - ironic in that there are no words spoken (words being Shakespeare's superpower). It's all done with the eyes by the two young genius actors, combined with inspired camera work and the devastating vocal performance of Des'ree. This is one of the most beautiful, greatest, and most powerful scenes in cinematic history. What is this emotion -- love at first sight? It might only happen two or three times in our entire lives. It isn't real love. So is it just trivial, adolescent silliness? I think it is much more than that -- and so did Shakespeare. What is our emotional relationship with our desires that can never be? We're haunted forever by the impossiblity of perfect love as much as we were ever thrilled by the fantasy of it. Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo & Juliet' taps deeply into the impossible longings that never leave us. It is a masterpiece.

As an English teacher, teaching Shakespeare can be quite a challenge. For modern students, trying to connect the concepts, theme, and setting of Romeo and Juliet can be quite a challenge. Keeping them engaged in the struggle of Shakespearean language is even more so. This version of the play is accurate and most importantly, entertaining. We, as a class, will read a portion of the play and then I will show this film to help cement ideas, dialogue, and characters. The students love the film, laugh, and respond better to the play than without!

I did not want to see this movie for years after its release. I consider myself a purist where the Bard of Avon is concerned. I adored the films Henry V & Much Ado About Nothing, both directed and starring Kenneth Branaugh, Richard III starring and directed by Olivier. Period costumes, true to Shakespeare's lines, etc. I began to change when I realized (fairly early on in watching it) that 10 Things I Hate About You, was a delightful retelling of The Taming Of The Shrew. Eventually I watched this and found a gem. From the factions portrayed as rival gangs, to the outstanding delivery of the lines. The true crowning jewel is the over the top performance by the inimitable John Leguizamo. As Tibalt, John is amazing.
