My family and I are die-hard Walt Disney World fans, going as often as we can. I picked up this book for my trip scheduled for next year and I am SO GLAD I did.I've been reading it for leisure and it is just so interesting to look at all the details that went into the creation of Disney World. Even if the book is a little out-dated, it's still super-interesting to see what was.Even if all of these facts are elsewhere on the internet, I still love having it in a comprehensive guide I can carry it around and I've even highlighted a couple things I want to remind myself to check out.This was not my original intent, but I think I am going to bring it with me on my trip so my boyfriend (it's going to be his first visit!) and I can entertain ourselves by searching for subtleties while waiting in line.

In preparation for my 5th trip to the Magic Kingdom I bought this book looking for "600 secrets" that I could discover within the parks. The book didn't deliver on that promise. In truth there might be 20-25 "secrets" or "items of interest" that I plan to look for during my trip. The rest of the pieces of information aren't secrets as much as interesting facts, history, and trivia. However, I didn't find myself disappointed. Perhaps it is the excitement and anticipation of the trip, but I found the book to be a fun and enjoyable read that walked you through each park with enough details to help you picture what you would be looking at. For me it was certainly worth the price I paid.So, don't buy the book for the "600 secrets." They aren't there. However, if you are a Disney World fan, do buy the book for an enjoyable, descriptive, and informative walk through a very magical place. 5 days and counting!!

Great book for the Disney fan. A little on the dated end of things. Some attractions don't exist in the park anymore. Hoollywood town and things like that are a little off now. Noone of the newer stuff past the tower of Terror. Nothing about Everest, the Mine Car 7 Dwarfs and a few other things. Still a good read laid out well, with a lot of cool info. You can easily skip past the parts that have been removed from the park.

I've read just about every "insider" guide to WDW out there, and this one still managed to surprise me with new and interesting insights and secrets! The author's access to Imagineers and Disney Cast Members shows in the unique facts and secrets shared in this book and it's companion Planner. Most of the other books out there "reveal" all the same, tired old tips and trivia – that we've all heard 1000 times. Susan Veness seems to have gotten into the minds of the designers and builders from the earliest stages and all the way through execution. A fun and compelling read!

First, I am going to say my three star review is based on the fact that I have spent time, not professionally, but as a hobby, learning about WDW. I listen to quite a few podcasts, subscribe to magazines about WDW, read books on WDW, etc... Having said that, I would actually give it two stars. If you have never been to, or have only gone to WDW to ride the rides, I would say that it is a four star book. Average is 3.This book has alot of information tucked away in its pages. Most is factual, but not all. The author takes liberties sometimes, tries to put the pieces of the puzzles the Imagineers left behind and makes assumptions, usually incorrectly, instead of inquiring WDW castmembers or any other source available(internet, other books, Imagineers, podcasters, other books, etc....). There is alot of information out there and most the time all you simply need to do is ask a cast member.I would recommend this book to first timers, people who dont really want to go to WDW but are going with their family, mabye teens who think WDW is not cool, or people who have gone quite a few times to WDW and are looking to get a little more. You take the book with you and find a small percent of the "hidden magic" at WDW, and maybe spark an intrest is learning more.If you have done any research into WDW, read other books on "secrets" of WDW, listen to podcasts about WDW, etc.... than this book is NOT for you. You will immediatly find errors and the "hidden magic" the author presents is pretty basic information. Mind, it is information most WDW visitors most likely will not know, its most likely information you already have learned from other sources. You will probably get a laugh from the errors and assumptions the author makes.As WDW is a constantly changing place, some of the content of the book is dated, such as Mickey's Toon Town Fair, which no longer exists (was removed to create room for the current contruction phase of the Fantasyland Expansion). And that is not the fault of the author.

I got this book for Christmas. Then I got it for my niece. She is soooo excited to take the book in June and find all the things listed. Great for any age,

I have a child with high functioning autism, and we are planning a Disney vacation next year. I purchased this for him due to the many unknown facts, behind the scenes, and history he will be able to see when he goes. He loves learning thing like this. To him this is like a treasure map.

In the past year I have gone to Disney World in Florida more than 10 times! There are a lot of things I know just from being in the parks that much, but OMG I had no idea how much more there was that I haven't discovered yet! As I was reading this book I kept telling myself I have to go back NOW to find all these things!! Plus its always fun to get the back story on some of the things in the parks. I have always been in awe of the "Disney Experience" but this book allows me to delve deeper and make that experience even more rich than it ever was before. I now know who to ask about Madame Leota's wedding ring in the Magic Kingdom, where to cool off in Hollywood Studios on a hot day, why that rock formation in Animal Kingdon looks like a dragon, and why its a good idea to stand under "Spaceship Earth" when its raining in EPCOT. With all that said I'm calling my Disney Travel Hostess and setting up my next trip!!

I was in the mood for a good, wholesome, feel-good love story. Every once in a while Sparks delivers. The last book of his I picked up, "The Longest Ride" was one of those feel goody types so I had high hopes for this one. The first couple chapters of "The Best of Me" were ok...just Ok. After the first few chapters the story quickly went downhill. I personally felt it was confusing the way it introduced new character viewpoints each chapter. Sometimes this can work in the author's favor but in this case we never really got to know any characters in depth.Also, without giving too much away I felt storylines were recycled from other well known novels of his - i.e., parents don't approve of leading lady's boyfriend, fight ensues, couple breaks up, leading lady moves on (but not entirely), long separation & then reunion, mother of leading lady shows up at house to talk some sense into leading lady (but maybe to encourage her to follow her own path)....sounding familiar? *cough*The Notebook*cough*.Semi-Spoiler Alert!!No happy ending here...not even a semi-happy ending where they grow old and die together. The ending to this story was rushed and sadly predictable and left a lot to be desired. "Best of Me" was definitely not Nicholas Sparks best work. I'm surprised by how many 4 and 5 stars it received.

Nicholas Sparks never disappoints. This is a poignant story about chances: random chances, lost chances, and second chances. A story of families, relationships, regrets and redemption. About once-in-a-lifetime, enduring love; lost, found, denied, and eventually recaptured. It's a story of honor, duty, responsibility, purpose, selflessness, and fate. This book will make you fall in love; will break your heart, will make you cry, and just maybe, it might even bring a little smile to your heart at the end. What more could you ask for! This is "the best of" Nicholas sparks!

I like to read a Sparks novel occasionally as a break from more serious literature. They seem like well written romances with good plots and characters. However, the endings have become predictable and never 100% happy. From the beginning of this book, I kept thinking about how it would end and if someone would get killed.Dawson and Amanda had been high school sweethearts even though they came from "opposite sides of the tracks" in Oriental, NC. They split up due to pressures by her parents. She ended up married to a dentist and they had children. Dawson went to prison for four years for accidentally killing the town's doctor when driving a vehicle. Later he worked on offshore rigs in the Gulf.Dawson and Amanda met up again over 20 years later when Tuck a mutual friend and father figure in Oriental died. His will requested that they scatter his ashes at a cottage that had been owned by him and his deceased wife. Two of Dawson's cousins hated him and made multiple attempts on his life.At some point the ending became very predictable and typical of Sparks. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading it. At least up to the predictable ending.

If you ever had a first love that got away, this is the book. It was a real page turner. It brought out a range of emotions, including tears. I really enjoyed this book. I read reviews where people said it was predictable. Maybe so at times, but I say it is a true romantic story. He wrote it with other characters involved in the story, and left us to fill in the details of their lovemaking. He tells a story, not just focusing on jumping in and out of bed. I found this very refreshing. I've read 2 more books by him since this read. I've found an author who actually tells a story.At first I thought I knew how the ending would be, but boy was I wrong. A funeral brings two high school lovers back together, but only for a short time. An old man's last wishes, a bar fight, car accident, and a one in a million chance of getting a transplant will keep you reading this book untill the very end.I'm not a big romance novel fan, but I tend to find myself enjoying Nicholas Sparks books anyway. I love how his stories are really well developed and thought-provoking, rather than just revolving around the physical aspects of love as many other romance novels do. "The Best of Me" had to be one of Nicholas Sparks' best novels yet. Yes, the basic theme is one that's been done over and over again - two high school sweethearts having to let go because real life interferes, and then running into each other again years later. But this story is so much more than that. You find yourself really sympathizing with the characters and understanding how difficult their situations are. Nicholas Sparks captures and holds your attention until the very end in this book, and this story is one that I'm sure will stick with me for a long time.The Best of Me follows the struggles of Amanda as she must decide between her imperfect family and her first love, Dawson. Her decision is heart-wrenching, and the events that ensue will inevitably bring tears to your eyes. Amanda discovers what really matters in life, and Dawson is able to truly give the best of himself to Amanda in a shocking manner.In true Nicholas Sparks fashion, The Best of Me is simultaneously heart-warming, melancholy, and suspenseful. How Dawson gives life to Amanda is sure to change your view on what is important to you.

It was corny and unrealistic. His books have gone from romantic to nauseating over the years and this is no exception. Amanda is childish. So she has problems in her marriage, who doesn't? So as soon as she sees her first love runs into his arms. And Dawson, never dated, had sex ever again because he never got over Amanda. Seriously?! Finished it because I did purchase it but oh no. What a waste!!!

Indeed, the daily televised diet of medical breakthroughs fails to convey the complexities of medical progress and the difficulties involved in bringing a bench observation to the stage of useful therapy. (Figure) Enter Howard Weiner, a veteran neurologist with decades of experience in medical research on multiple sclerosis, with a monograph on the medical history of such research and the clinical realities of the disease. He draws a rich, fascinating portrait of important failures and successes in this difficult field of medicine. Almost an autobiography, this book is well written and detailed. It also appeals through down-to-earth language that avoids trivialization and places complex biology within the grasp of the interested but uninitiated reader. With mastery, Weiner mixes anecdote with the teaching of biologic, statistical, and medical processes, rendering a living tale that keeps the reader's attention. There is much passion here as the author highlights decades of continuing frustration in the search for causes of the clinically varied and elusive, chronically progressive condition of multiple sclerosis and its many subtypes. This book will be instructive and interesting for patients, their families, and many people with other chronic diseases. The book manages to entertain while drawing a clear picture of the evolving process that drives medical progress, however slowly and ponderously. Few issues remain untouched, from the need for (and danger of) ego as the investigator weathers the many frustrations before the rare successes occur to the stony path from bench observation to bedside use. The tone is inherently optimistic as the book highlights the development and regulatory approval of the small but slowly growing number of drugs approved or already used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. By and large, the author avoids diving too deeply into science and technology, and he freely and frequently admits that an understanding of the mechanisms involved in multiple sclerosis (and in most other autoimmune diseases) is missing. Much of this book is about clinical trials in a difficult field. The trials suffer from a lack of predictive, surrogate markers of intermediate to long-term outcomes, as well as from a paucity of practical measures of effectiveness, with magnetic resonance imaging a difficult but irreplaceable tool. The author excels at illustrating these points and at emphasizing the need for proper controls, questions, and answers that can be interpreted with confidence in such trials. The title, Curing MS, is bold and misleading, but the author himself corrects the misconception about the likelihood of cures for this disease in the last chapter. The backbone of the book is the "Weiner list" of 21 hypotheses that describe the author's view of multiple sclerosis as a primary autoimmune disease that, possibly, is caused by unknown infectious episodes. Not all of these hypotheses are uniformly acknowledged in the field, but most are in the mainstream; some, such as a strong focus on cytokines, are somewhat dated, though not inappropriately for what is basically a history of the medicine surrounding multiple sclerosis. This book does not attempt to provide a critical assessment of the status of therapy for the disease -- it really does not explain "how science is solving the mysteries of multiple sclerosis," as the subtitle claims -- but it does provide a realistic look at the field, with its challenges, its origins, and the more recent achievements that have been made with a modicum of therapeutic tools. When you have a disease like MS. You are always looking for an answer. An answer to why my body has betrayed me and is there hope for a better life. When I saw this book, I was curious. It wasn't until I received it that I saw that this book was published in 2004. I was so disappointed. The author is a medical doctor. I was surprised to see that he discusses using Chemo for those with MS. I have been reading studies from Europe going on right now using Chemo. Dr Weiner was beyond his time. I hope he is still looking for a cure. The book has a lot of information in it but I felt it is more geared more toward physicans rather then the patient.

Well it is an interesting read, but it shows no cure. It does show the history on how medicine has been looking for cures. They developed therapies, but only therapies that can get you a little better or remission if caught early. And it sees there is a stage for MS that doesn't respond at all to any therapy. So in the end, this was a sad read, rather than a hopeful read. Not a bad book to see what MS stages and therapies are if your doctor just doesn't mention this all to you if you have MS.

This book never once mentioned Word One about the impact of diet and nutrition in treating Multiple Schlerosis. Not Once!I am a firm believer, (based on my own personal experiences with changing my diet and the PROFOUND impact it has had on managing my MS and vastly improving my physical, mental and emotional well being), that diet and nutrition play a pivotal role in treating MS and turning around the outcomes of patients suffering from the ravages of this disease. This book focused solely on medical treatments, and never once made mention about how the foods we put into our mouths can greatly affect our health, ....both good and bad.My soon-to-be former MS doctor can object all he wants to about this point of diet's impact on medical outcomes, but I strongly defend my stance on the dietary choices I've made to treat this disease, versus injecting my body with dangerous chemicals that do NOTHING to treat the disease....only serving to {sometimes} stop further disease progression.So any book, no matter how old it is, that does not mention or discuss such crucially important factors as the impact of diet and nutrition on medical outcomes, is not worth the cost of the paper it took to print the book!

This is an awesome book. I highly recommend it. I'm glad to be diagnosed in this day and age as there are now so many options available.

Very accessible history of the research and advances in the treatment of MS over the past several decades. Weiner has a straightforward style that explains complex topics by relating them to the symptoms and experiences of his patients. I found it very informative in learning about the disease after my own diagnosis and how the different treatments my doctors recommended work.

Want to know why your MS meds cost so much. Take a look into the world of MS research. I read this book five years ago after initial diagnosis and was thrilled to re-read the updated version.

I have had MS for over 25 years and read a lot of books and articles. Thiswas quite informative. A lot of information, personal stories, very readable. The medical community is still trying very hard to find an answer to this crazy disease.
