Poor value for $'s spent. This is a very tiny 60 question 'booklet' - not a book. Was hoping for a lot more questions. Should be more like $10-$15 for what it is.Also, I had already paid $50 to write an on line practice exam through the Castle testing and many of the same questions were duplicates in the book. To those looking to do a practice exam - do one or the other. Both was a waste of money.

$24 for a little bitty pamphlet with only thirty test questions? Please. This kind of profiteering makes PMA look greedy, and makes me not wish to get involved.

I found this to be very poorly written and formatted HORRIBLY! Was it needed to successfully pass the test? Yes. Which is why I gave it 3 stars. But they should really review the content and make it more reader friendly.

Kind of flimsy for the price, but good practice questions.

Most of the questions are included in the PMA test. Good tool. A little pricey.

A lot of useful information. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Not much about Tamar Hodel and very little about George Hodel or the Black Dahlia. So far, the TV show "I Am the Night" bears no resemblance to the facts as stated by Fauna. (After 3 episodes.) The TV show is much more interesting. But if you want the truth and the poor writing doesn't bother you, the book tells the truth per Fauna.

This book was amazing! I grew up much like Fauna and had to fight both sides of the racial inequities. Reading this book took me on a journey of my own life. Fighting for my place in the midst of the civil rights era and not knowing where I fit in was extremely difficult and being told I was mullato meant nothing. My favorite movie has always been Imitation of Life much like Fauna because we could relate to it. Sixty three years after my birth, via Ancestry, to find out that I am 83% Caucasian and having no one still alive to explain this to me is heart wrenching. All I have is why?

I hope Tamar Hodel, Fauna's birth mother, gets to write her own book. For anybody who has read about Dr George Hill Hodel, you will know he was a prime suspect in Los Angeles most famous unsolved case, the murder and dismemberment of Elizabeth Ann Short also known as the Black Dahlia. This book is about his granddaughter's life adopted by an African American woman in Nevada and her husband in the 1950s. Fauna's teenage birth mom Tamar had to give her away after a one night stand.Fauna also known as Patty was raised in the African American culture and communities. When she searches her birth family, she makes startling discoveries especially about her paternal grandfather who was a suspected serial killer and her birth mother Tamar.I sympathize with Tamar who had experiences so much in her troubled life. Fauna writes honestly and candidly about her life. She is grateful to both mothers and her families.I wish nothing but the best for the author and her families. This book shows another side of the Hodel family that isn't dark and grim.

If you enjoy true crime stories, you might enjoy this one. It was pretty well written and so very disturbing to read about this particular family dynamic. It has led me to read Steve Hodel's book, Black Dahlia Avenger, and I intend on reading the other books he has written as well.

While this story is fascinating, this book was not well-written. It was repetitive - it could have been told in a more direct and concise way. This would have actually heightened the emotional impact. The erratic timeline and restated events were a distraction. Considering that the author collaborated with another writer, and I assume a proofreader and editor, someone should have been able to correct spelling and grammar. I am not talking about the dialog meant to convey colloquialisms or regional dialects, but throughout the book including narrative.

I wanted to love this book because I'm enjoying the series "I Am the Night" so much. I knew the series was "inspired" by the life of Fauna Hodel, meaning that it wasn't going to be a documentary. However, I just found the book to be very rambling and a bit hard to follow. I'm glad to have read it because the series made me wonder about the person behind it, but the writing could have REALLY been tightened up.

Intense book, looking forward to the series coming out in the fall.

So, a book about search algorithms by a professor of African American Studies...Next in this series is a book by a Michelin Star Chef on the censorship of overtly phallic garden variety edibles by algebraic "foodie" algorithms on social media: "Veggies of Erection: how Instagram and Pinterest are destroying green libido, and ten delicious ways to prepare them!"I mean, c'mon...Seriously, I gave this one a chance but the book is a tease in the first half and a disappointment in the second. Draw your own parallels with your private life here but, c'mon...The writing is obtuse, riddled with circular arguments, name dropping, and the use of other people's better arguments about the very thing you're supposed to be an expert about. Which is a shame because it is an important subject that deserves better treatment. Ms. Noble's arguments ultimately devolve into "trust me, I'm right because such-and-such wrote about it already in...and I agree!" Don't believe me?"Recent research on Google by Siva Vaidhyanathan...who has written one of the most important books on Google to date, demonstrates its dominance over the information landscape and forms the basis of a central theme in this research."And here again,"Frank Pasquale, a professor of law at the University of Maryland, has also forewarned of the increasing levels of control that algorithms have over the many decisions made about us, from credit to dating options...."and again,"The political economic critique of Google by Elad Segev, a senior lecturer ... charges that we can no longer ignore the global dominance of Google and..."and wait, there's more,"Molly Niesen at the University of Illinois has written extensively on the loss of public accountability by federal agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is a major contribution..."Alright, I know some of you are going to say that it is ok to cite other people's work, but beyond her statements, no further exposition is offered. Thirty-seven pages in she is still telling you:"This work is addressing a gap in scholarship on how search works and what it biases, public trust in search, the relationship of search to information studies, and the ways in which African Americans, among others, are mediated and commodified in Google."Can we get on with it?Oh, and her solution for all this is a tad comical, if not heroically ironic:“In my own imagination and in a project I am attempting to build, access to information on the web could be designed akin to a color picker tool or some other highly transparent interface, so that users could find nuanced shades of information and easily identify the borderlands between news and entertainment, entertainment and pornographers, or journalism and academic scholarship.”Break out your crayons and stop your engineers Google, all you need is a color palette!Ugh. If only the absence of color-blindness could be fixed with more color eh? Search results are not primarily the problem, lack of critical thinking skills is. Blocking misleading, inflammatory results for black-on-white crime cannot be the solution when there are people out there with racial anxieties worked to a frenzy that will keep looking until they find what matches their worldview.If all this weren't sad enough, in a last-ditch effort to end on a strong note, she caps the book off with a piece about Yelp and its business model, but I thought we were talking about Google?Cannot recommend.

I hope Google and Yahoo's executive teams take notice of this brilliantly written book by Dr. Safiya Umoja Noble. I appreciate her points that many times our internet searches are influenced by algorithms created by humans who potentially bring their gender and racial biases and in some cases racism into their mathematical outputs. I enjoyed this book and will recommend it to my colleagues.

This error and similar cases have since been programmatically removed from the search engine but the more global questions-how did we transition our communal knowledge and it’s curation to neoliberal industry absent public comment, how do we intervene in the epistemic injustice wrought by systems embedded in the public conscious as beacons of progress and innovation-remain.Algorithms of Oppression is a critical read for anyone tryna ‘Get Out!’ #JordanPeele style from the twin rise of the Trump regime and neoliberal technocracy. My only critique is the book could have benefitted from some stronger editing to elicit clearer synthesis of some of Noble’s unique insights specifically grounded in information science. The outrageous racism revealed in algorithmic outputs takes center stage and maybe rightly so, but there are points she makes along the way, that are being neglected by other scholars in the field that I would have like to seen greater focus on and more explicitly stated. I imagine it’s tough for brilliant women of color in tech to find editors that get CRT and the intersection of tech and humanities within the demographics of the American publishing world. Ultimately, the strength of the research goes along way to compensate for those shortcomings. I’m so curious to see what she will write next, the exhausting impotence of the agnostic left, weary soldiers propping up the failed project of “fairness” are not ready for this scholar’s revitalization of liberation theory post digital turn.

Lennox, I am convinced that Dr. Lennox' thoughts are vital to this ancient discussion.In my experience, when Christians discuss topics like this, regardless of what side they are on, one's bias shows up almost immediately. A collection of "obvious" texts "proving" their position is presented, assertions are made and the other side is left feeling quite unsatisfied.The feeling is either that the other side has deliberately stayed away from certain parts of scripture in order to maintain their theological paradigm, or that the texts being presented in support of one's side are taken largely out of context. Which of course leaves both parties going away feeling no different than when the discussion started.Not so with this book. I believe both sides will feel adequate attention has been made to the entire discussion, regardless of what side you fall on.I've been following Dr. Lennox' work for sometime now and I've always been impressed by his intellectual honesty, humility and love for the Word of God. So when I saw this book it was an instant purchase for me and it did not disappoint.In the way that is so unique to him, John goes over the history of this discussion, texts that are commonly used to support determinism, an in depth study of the gospel of John chapters 6-10, Romans 9-11 and much more.As already mentioned, I believe both sides will feel satisfied by the end of this book. Largely due to John's humility and honesty with the text. You won't find shallow assertions here, nor contortion of scripture in order to make it fit a theological paradigm. Instead you will find intelligent, rational and thoughtful points being made from scripture. Which those who follow Dr. Lennox' work already know are his strengths.God bless John for being such a wonderful ambassador of Jesus Christ to the world!

I have been a Christian for 45 years and have struggled for about 10 years with the teaching on election, when I saw it for the first time in the footnotes of a new John McArthur Bible. I was so stunned, so horrified, and I just couldn’t believe this was there all the time, and I hadn’t seen it. I talked to people who know their Bible, read a book on why this is true, and felt my heart sinking as it appeared they were right. I never have been able to feel comfortable with this doctrine, but if it were true, and if it’s of God, of course I had to accept it.After reading John Lennox's book, my heart is light again because of his clear explanation on this subject. He looks at the Big Picture, analyzes every instance of these verses that appear to teach that God chooses some for Heaven and some for eternal hell. Someone said that if he had thought this about God, he would never have become a Christian. I agree. How could anyone “admire”, much less love, a God who allowed people to be born who were doomed from the start and never had a chance to know Jesus? Now I don’t care what anyone else says or thinks, my pastor included (and he is a Ph.D. Bible scholar), I now have Mr. Lennox's interpretation, and I believe it is the truth.Thank you, John Lennox, for this in-depth examination of the doctrine of determinism/election. You have set my heart free again.

Dr. John Lennox is a highly valued teacher and author of several books, he has outstanding credentials. However, this maybe the first he has written which has such controversial subject matter. I will be frank, when reading this book there were times Iwas disturb at the quotes yet to his credit, he tries to strip away denominational lines and seek a scriptural based responsesto the subject matter of theistic determinism, salvation by faith or by regeneration, and the subject of man's free will.Methodically he goes into the deep divides that others would only fear to tread. This was not an easy book to write, yet I could not put the book down. I would recommend it to any believer who desires to expand his knowledge base of the conflict betweenmodern day believers. Dr. Lennox has done an outstanding job of respectfully representing these issues with logic and intelligence.

Lennox clearly discriminates between compatibilist free will as defined by those such as Jonathon Edwards, as not conscious of coercion yet nevertheless bound by necessity, from a will that has the real power to choose otherwise. Lennox defends the latter view, and if the former view is correct, then freedom is essentially a meaningless term. Whether one agrees with Lennox or not, his case is cogently and fairly presented.

Professor Lennox wields the sword of God in this new book, "Determined to Believe." Using God's word Lennox reasons together with the reader. Precept upon precept and line upon line he uses scripture and impeccable logic to answer the questions people will discuss until the last day. Where there appears to be a paradox of mankind's free will and God's predestination, Lennox reveals there is in fact perfect harmony. Over the centuries, Satan has cast shadows with false doctrine. By using God's word, professor Lennox illuminates the dark corners and the devil flees. Lennox is a master swordsman!
