Eric J. Topol, M.D., is professor of innovative medicine and the director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute in La Jolla, California. Given all the havoc that has beset the medical market it is no surprise that Topol has called this a "Creative Destruction of Medicine". The medical system in place from (say) the mid-20th century forward, will not be able to handle the continual flow of retiring baby boomers, let alone senior citizens with ever increasing life expectancies. Like so many promises made over the past years, in its present form medicine will not be able to afford to honor the Medicare entitlement. So the current system must be replaced it with something else that will work.The only good news is that the cost of medicine can be greatly reduced through the aggressive introduction of advanced cutting-edge technology. Topol provides examples of where the injection of a little technology can substantively improve medicine, and at the same time do so at reduced costs. We might be seeing what others in the past have called "inflection points", where radical improvements and changes lead to measurably better patient outcomes.Changes on the cusp, are by no means painless. In the future you personally will be unlikely to get nearly as much one-on-one time with your doctor. Instead you will be seen by other medical professionals like physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and technologists of all stripes . In writing this, I remember the days when my dentist actually cleaned my teeth (!). Now a hygienist tends to that, with the dentist stopping by to take a quick look and shake hands.It would seem the dentists got to the answer faster than medical doctors were able to:Delegate anything and everything you can to less expensive staff so you can see more patients and reap the rewards of an expanded practice.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of Dr. Eric Topol's book and his message. While the text is sometimes more technical than the average reader might be at ease with, the message that health care is endangered is vital to everyone. Politicians have refused to deal honestly with the health care lobby, the biggest and most powerful lobby in America, because its money means votes. As the Baby Boomers retire at the rate of 10,000 a day between now and 2019, the debt of health care -- already a $2.8 trillion monster -- is absolutely going to spiral out of control because nothing was done. My children, and their children, will be pinned under this financial burden their entire lives.Topol has reformative ideas and is busy employing them with real patients. His work in wireless medicine, where multimillion-dollar medical devices have been been reduced in size and expense -- some to the size of a smartphone -- could not only save billions every year in hospital charges, but re-establish the patient-physician relationship that has been lost.Dr. Topol's ideas need to be heard by everyone because the patient of tomorrow will have to be conversant in health care, lest they become one of the 50 percent of bankruptcy filers who do so because of medical bills.

This book is a must for ANYONE who will ever be part of the health care system (as a provider or recipient of health care). Dr. Topol has written this book for the empowered consumer but as a physician who spent a career focusing on quality of care, I found it enlightening and fascinating. Dr. Topol takes us from the population based/guideline based medicine of today (WHEN we are lucky enough to have enough population based evidence for guidelines) to the individualized medicine of the not too distant future and explains how genomics and digitalization will make that possible. There are so many useful aspects to this book including a discussion of how to interpret the literature, how to evaluate the internet as a resource, how to select a top notch doctor and what kinds of conditions that is important for and so much more. Just to find about the MIT OpenCourseWare was worth the price of the book. This book is a major contribution from a doc who has been one of the major contributors to health care in this country. It was recommended to me by a cardiologist friend and I have recommended it to everyone from doc friends to musician friends. Lots of important content written with great clarity in a personal, almost conversational style that makes it a pleasure to read.

Wow Dr. Topol became a role model for me after I read this book.It just sucks that the average person interested in health isn't going to be able to read this book, nor are ideas like this the impetus for social change, because unfortunately complicated ideas from smart people aren't understood by most and thus don't go anywhere without social media efforts and popularity. However Dr. Topol wants a change, and I agreed with some of his ideas. Most intriguing to me was the part about pharmacogenomics and the future of personalization in medicine. Large population based studies attempt to homogenize its sample but never do, because the genes of those individual people weren't measured and people will respond differently. Being able to group people by certain haplotypes and genes is revealing greater answers in medicine, faster. It's dense and has a LOT of information, a LOT of references, which I like. Highly recommended for medical students.

I purchased this book to help me with planning a meditation class for children. I have used it several times and have LOVED it! The activities are simple and easily lends itself to further discussion with the children. I have found it to be appropriate for younger children as well as early teens. I would recommend any one using this with children to use actual rocks or pebbles this enhances the kinesthetic learning aspect of the activities and gives them something tangible to hold on to which increases memory. The message and method found in this book are well worth the purchase.

This is a fantastic book to teach your kids about mindfulness, giving, calmness and more. I highly recommend this book to share with your children. My son was reluctant to read this at first but after sometime he began to realize the positive lessons he could learn. Unfortunately we lost our copy so I will be purchasing another one soon.

My kids like the stories, although they aren't exactly written well for reading aloud.

The book is easy to read, easy to understand, and inspiring. Young and older people will find it useful and enjoyable.

Bought this for my daughter. She enjoyed it but be prepared to answer questions about life and death and beyond. I recommend it to enlighten a child if you are a follower of Buddha.

Ok so I just got the book despite the fact it said it was delivered yesterday. The book itself seems amazing. Perfect for a young boy struggling with pre puberty stress. I love it!!!!!

I have admittedly been resistant to reading books by TNH in the past, I thought "that is not really my style of zen" But then I saw a pebble in your pocket in the books recommended for children section. I picked this one out and I am quite impressed. This book makes for great bed time reading to my six year old girl and it hasn't got a whole lot of jargon or difficult vocabulary requiring breaks for explanation.Thanks TNH for creating the opportunity for me to change my mind.

This book is for older children then I was looking forI teach 3-5 year olds but I'm sure it will come in handy in the future

{My thoughts} – {date entire series completed} – {01.22.2019}I have a confession. I have already watched the Netflix Original Series that is based of of these graphic Novels. When I’d started to watch it, I’d realized just how morbid this series was. I didn’t however, know the horror that would waiting to bed read within the pages of this book.Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:– {Book 1: Something Wicked} – {01.22.2019} – Sabrina’s parents are meant to give her to her fathers sisters to raise. Her mother tries to run off with her which doesn’t work out in her favor and Sabrina’s aunts are left with raising her without the help and input of either parent. Sabrina has periods in which she doesn’t want to follow the rules and where the past things her parents had done are thrown into her face by her peers. Her aunts then decide that they are going to move to another town to get away from everything and attempt to give Sabrina a fresh start.– {Book 2: The Secret History of Madam Satan} – {01.22.2019} – This book had so much blood shed. It was hard not to double, triple take many of the images. There is a lot to be learned within the pages of this book, particularly what happened to Sabrina’s dad and why he never returned back to her.– {Book 3: Unholy Baptism} – {01.22.2019} – Sabrina is suppose to be getting ready to be baptized into satan’s army and she has some questions about it. She mostly gets the answers she was looking for, but she still isn’t okay with the outcome of everything. Her aunts push her to make the commitment to the dark and no longer follow the light. However, since Sabrina is a half-breed she has a choice and she isn’t sure she is making the right choice with it comes down to everything that is taking place.– {Book 4: Harvey Horrors} – {01.22.2019} – This book was difficult for me. I’d watch the Sabrina comedy growing up and I’d watched the Netflix series. In both things aren’t nearly is sad and morbid as they are within the pages of this book.– {Book 5: The Trial} – {01.22.2019} – Sabrina has to face a trial do to breaking witch law. However, she didn’t break it and is still being accused. This trial could result in her death if she is proven to be found guilty. If you’d like to know the outcome you’ll have to read the book. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Not what you would expect if you're comparing to the live action Sabrina. It's chilling and a bit morbid, but totally awesome! It is graphic, so be warned if you don't like images of the undead!

I decided to read this after hearing it was going to be made into a TV show on the CW.I loved the whole vibe of this. I liked that it was set in the 1960’s and the artwork matched perfectly. It had the right blend of vintage throwback and horror.As for the story, I liked the darker take on Sabrina. The first couple of issues had a lot of backstory, but once it got to main plot I was hooked.Overall, this was a fantastic spooky read. I cannot wait for the show.

I heard of the Archie universe reboot and decided to give this a try. With Riverdale (the show, not the comic) being what it is, which was ok, I thought I'd give this one a try. I was very surprised at this comic. It's not like the show, thank goodness, because the show tried to paint them as humans with powers, less than witches. That's not the case here. It gives you a look into life in the eyes of someone who identifies as other. You won't be disappointed.

In this issue we get a chance to find out how Salem ended up in his cat form. Turns out he was a typical guy and made an enemy of the wrong woman who found a novel way to punish. We also got another story of transformation that was interesting.This was a nice way to segue into the next stage of the story that is sure to bring even more trouble for our young witch.

After binge watching Sabrina on Netflix I had to see how the reboot came to be, and I was surprised to see that Archie was behind it. I was even more surprised to see that the comic is actually better than the show. It is darker and more morbid than the show, which seemed appropriate considering the subject matter. It is also paced quicker and is easy to flip through too fast. The art style is great and wonderfully colored, the artists really outdid themselves. This was a labor of love.If you want to see where Netflix got their inspiration, pick this up. If you loved the creepiness of the show but could live without the feminist overtones, pick this up. The source material really is better in every way.

Only 4 stars (because I haven't finished it yet lol) But I am excited to finish it. Great quality of the product as well. (Can't wait for the show that's based on this to be released in October on Netflix!)

I had to buy this calendar. I love Annie Lee and was sad to hear of her passing this year. This calendar was sent in a beautiful large envelope that is completely usable for holding items like photographs or greeting cards. I am excited to hang this calendar next month and look forward to seeing the beautiful Annie Lee art each month.

This was pretty pricey for a calendar, but I bought it as a gift for a friend and he absolutely loves it. Says it brings back memories of his childhood. The art work is wonderful and it is printed on very heavy paper that makes it suitable for framing.

I am such a fan of Annie Lee's work but it is hard to find her authentic pieces online. This calendar not only gives me a chance to look at various different pieces of her art work each month it also give bible scriptures and teaches me about Black history, that I may have otherwise w/o researching for myself, known about.

Annie Lee is my absolute favorite calendar artist. I order an Annie Lee calendar every year.

Before my daughter was born, I had a couple of friends that bragged about how their babies slept through the night at two months old. They always seemed to keep such a great schedule for their babies. And those babies always seemed so happy.My sister’s kids didn’t sleep through the night until they were over two years old. I knew I did not want this. So I asked my friends how they managed to get their kids to sleep so well. They told me about this book and I literally cannot say enough good about it. I followed the PDF models from birth with my daughter (now 3 years old) and a friend of mine who had a baby three days after me also followed it. Our kids both started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks and have been champion sleepers since.I’m about to have my second baby and am re-reading it. I’m excited to use these methods again to have a great sleeper once again.

I got this book from a friend when I was expecting and loved the advice given and tried to inplement what I could. Before I started reading it, though, I saw a lot of negative reviews about how the author says it's ok for your baby to be hungry so I was very skeptical to start reading; however, that isn't what the book says at all-quite the opposite! It teaches you--among other things-- how to recognize when your baby is hungry versus something else (wet, dirty, cold, tired, etc), how to use a schedule that is flexible so your baby can eat at relatively the same times while still not going hungry, and how to encourage night time sleep. My daughter was a great sleeper right off the bat but using this book has helped me give her better nighttime sleep! I knew not to rush in if she gives off one regular cry because she's likely still sleeping and so many other things. I wasn't able to do the eat, wake time, sleep cycle (believe me, I tried!) since my daughter would want to eat again before sleeping. So I did the eat, sleep, wake and it still worked. My friend who gave it to me said that happened to her middle child and she did the same thing. Whatever works!My daughter is 18 months now and we have used a couple of the other books in the series and my daughter is literally awesome!! I know that using boundaries that were explained in the book has been a huge factor in this. I'm a much more competent parent than I would have been without these books. Thank you Baby Wise!!Also, I have a friend who was super sleep deprived with a three-month-old and I ordered this for her. Her baby went from maybe sleeping 4-5 hours at her longest stretch (which I think was during the day) to sleeping 8 hours at night within a few weeks. She's still working on getting the hours up but I haven't asked to see how diligent she is in the program.

I used this book with my first son and he was sleeping through the night at 12 weeks and has been an amazing sleeper ever since. Celebrated his second birthday yesterday. He takes about a 2 hour nap daily and goes to bed at 6pm. He usually doesn’t wake up till 7:30/8am the following morning. If I could i would shout the praises of this book from the roof tops. My second son is due this December...hoping to have him sleeping through the night closer to 8 weeks like the book boasts. The lie that you won’t sleep when you have children has gone on long enough! It doesn’t have to be true for you! Be the parent...not the follower!

If you're expecting a baby or already have one, do yourself a favor and get this book. It's all about helping your baby to sleep and nap well and reliably, and who doesn't want that? It had tons of sample schedules and lots of troubleshooting tips (e.g. Why is my baby waking up 30min into his nap? Why is my baby hungry early?). Some hospitals specifically advise against this book, but their concerns seem to be about an earlier edition. This is not about strict scheduling, but about encouraging your baby to be consistent with his/her eating and sleeping routines. As adults, we eat and sleep at approximately the same times each day, so why wouldn't we encourage our infants to do the same? Seriously, this book brings some sanity back to the newborn days.

This book goes against learning and normal development in the relationship of new mothers and their infants. Following the advice given could lead to attachment issues, malnutrition, and generally bad outcomes. I would rather my baby be healthy and loved than to sleep through the night right away. Please research the opposition before following the terrible advice in this book.

Baby Wise works wonders. We had our 7 week old sleeping 8 hours at night. Now, a year in, we can count on one hand the number of times the baby has woken up early. She never fusses being put down to sleep. Now we give a copy of Baby Wise to every friend and family member who is having their first kid (#2+ the parents are usually too stubborn to change :-).

Great advice and a good reference for schedules. I always recommend this book to new moms.

This is the BEST book. I recommend it to all my new mom friends!
